Latest decisions from Harrogate Magistrates Court

Ian James Maesepp, 28, care of East Park Road, Harrogate, was given a six-month conditional discharge for possession of ketamine at McDonald’s in Cambridge Crescent, Harrogate. He was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £20 and costs of £85, and magistrates instructed that the drug be forfeited and destroyed. For failing to surrender to bail, magistrates ordered that he be detained in the courthouse, and deemed the sentence served by the time already spent in custody.

Wayne Michael Terry Costello, 28, of Walworth Avenue, Harrogate, was given a six-month conditional discharge for being drunk and disorderly in Skipton Road, Harrogate. He was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £20 and costs of £85.

Jordan Doolan, 23, of Trentham Avenue, Middlesbrough, was fined £220 for acting as a pedlar in Bewerley without the required certificate. He was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £30 and costs of £85.

Christopher John Lazenby, 27, care of County Parade, Harrogate, was given a six-month conditional discharge for using threatening or abusive words or behaviour likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress at Nidderdale House in Cambridge Road. He was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £20 and costs of £85.

Brian Black, 72, of Bower Road, Harrogate, was fined £388 for driving while under the influence of alcohol on Bower Road. He was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £38 and costs of £85, and was disqualified from driving for 20 months, to be reduced by 20 weeks on completion of an approved course.

Eleanor Katherine Nolan, 22, of Olive Grove, Harrogate, was given a one-year conditional discharge for stealing cigarettes from the Co-Op in High Street, Harrogate. She was ordered to pay compensation of £240, a victim surcharge of £20 and costs of £85.

Martin Joseph Sandford, 30, of St Cuthbert’s Close, Ripon, was given a six-month community order for possession of an offensive weapon, namely a pool cue case, and for using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour with intent to cause fear of violence, in Market Place East, Ripon. He was made subject to an eight-week curfew and was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £85 and costs of £85.

Dwain Layton, 26, of Cheltenham Crescent, Harrogate, was ordered to carry out 21 hours of unpaid work for failing to comply with the supervision requirements following release from prison. Magistrates imposed costs of £40.

The following were dealt with at Harrogate Magistrates Court on December 8:

Craig Hughes, 30, of no fixed address was given a four-month prison sentence for four counts of theft of goods worth a total of £1,277. He stole razor blades and an electric shaver worth £320.02, six boxes of XLS Fat Binders worth £510, and 19 packets of razors and four boxes of XLS Fat binders, worth a total of £561.96, all on separate occasions, from Boots in Cambridge Street, Harrogate. He also stole Gillette razors and two box sets of fragrance, worth £85.99, from Boots at St James Retail Park, Knaresborough. Magistrates imposed a victim surcharge of £115.

Clive Watson, 44, of Princess Terrace, North Road, Ripon, was given a 12-month conditional discharge for breaching a non-molestation order by sending text messages to a woman. He was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £20 and costs of £85.

Kirsty Victorine Farrell, 30, of Leeming Lane, Boroughbridge, was ordered to keep a four-year-old chestnut and white Staffordshire bull terrier named Misty under control by keeping it securely on a lead in a public place.

Constantin Minciu, 28, of Luxor View, Harehill, was given a 12-month community order and instructed to complete 80 hours of unpaid work for driving while disqualified in Boroughbridge. He was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £85 and was disqualified from driving for six months. No separate penalty was imposed for driving without insurance.

Anthony David White, 44, of South Drive, Harrogate, was given a 12-month community order for two counts of driving while under the influence of alcohol: one on Stray Road in October and one on Wheatlands Road East in December. He was ordered to complete a Drink Impaired Driver Course and carry out 80 hours of unpaid work. He was instructed to pay two sets of costs of £85 and one victim surcharge of £85, and was disqualified from driving for 28 months.

Jason David Ainsley, 24, of Pannal Green, Pannal, was given a two-year community order for harassing a woman. He was ordered to complete a Building Better Relationships programme and to carry out 100 hours of unpaid work. Magistrates imposed a restraining order preventing him from contacting the victim and attending two addresses in Harrogate. He was also ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £85 and costs of £85.
