Harrogate taxi driver fined and disqualified from driving after court case

A Harrogate taxi driver has been fined and disqualified from driving after pleading guilty to driving his private hire car without the appropriate licence.

John Rawlins, 60, from Lodge Yard in Minskip, appeared at Harrogate Magistrates court on Tuesday 4 October. He also pleaded guilty to using a private hire vehicle without the correct insurance cover in place.

Mr Rawlins was disqualified from driving for a period of 6 months and received fines and costs totalling £927.

In light of the sentence Mr Rawlins’ licence to drive Hackney Carriage and Private Hire Vehicles issued by the council has been revoked.

Councillor John Ennis is chair of Harrogate Borough Council’s Licensing Committee. He said: “The checks we make on a vehicle before issuing a licence for it are extremely important and a key part of our commitment to ensuring passenger safety.

“This case sends a clear message that we will not tolerate unlicensed vehicles or drivers putting the travelling public at risk.”
