Harrogate Magistrates Court weekly round-up

The following were dealt with at Harrogate Magistrates Court on May 17:

Marc Adam Buck, 28, of Room 8, 29 Harlow Moor Drive, Harrogate, was fined £40 for using threatening or abusive words or behaviour likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress, in Commercial Street, Harrogate. He was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £30 and costs of £85.

Oliver Thomas Gill, 31, of 44 Roberts Crescent, Harrogate, was fined £380 for driving while under the influence of alcohol. He was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £38 and costs of £85, and was disqualified from driving for 18 months, to be reduced by 18 weeks on completion of an approved course.

Darren Malcolm Lowe, 39, of 69 Skipton Road, Harrogate, was given a 12-month community order for assaulting two men in The Ginnel, Harrogate, by beating them. Magistrates imposed two sets of compensation of £150 each, along with costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £60.

Joanne Elizebeth Richards, 45, of 57 Regent Avenue, Harrogate, was fined £110 for driving while under the influence of alcohol. She was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £30 and costs of £85, and was disqualified from driving for three years, to be reduced by 36 weeks on completion of an approved course.

Behrooz Sayfi-Gobaktapeh, 39, of 6 Stone Court, Cranmer Gardens, Leeds, was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £60 for stealing three 70cl bottles of Martell, a gift bag and a packet of cheese crisps, worth a total of £85.50, from Marks and Spencer in Cambridge Street, Harrogate.

Jacqueline Diane Simpson, 46, of 2D Wortley Road, Leeds, was given a 12-month conditional discharge for stealing three Yankee Candles worth £53.94 from Rainbows End in High Street, Knaresborough. She was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £20 and costs of £85.

Robert Mariusz Sobita, 45, of Flat 5, Bower Court, Bower Road, Harrogate, was given a 12-month community order for persistently using a public electronic communications network to cause annoyance, inconvenience or needless anxiety to another. He was ordered to complete a six-month alcohol treatment programme, and was fined £40 and ordered to pay costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £60.

Nicolino Tavaniello, 48, of 117 Skipton Road, Ilkley, was fined £730 for driving while under the influence of alcohol in Follifoot. He was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £73 and costs of £85, and was disqualified from driving for 23 months, to be reduced by 23 weeks on completion of an approved course.

Eleanor Chalmers, 37, of 1 Chapel Mews, Skipton Road, Harrogate, was ordered to pay compensation of £4.50 for stealing a bottle of cider from the One Stop Shop in Knaresborough Road, Harrogate. Magistrates did not impose a further sentence for carrying out an offence while subject to a conditional discharge for a previous conviction for theft.

Martin Hugh Johnston, 31, of 13A Roche Avenue, Harrogate, was given a 12-month conditional discharge for stealing alcohol from the One Stop Shop in Electric Avenue, Harrogate. He was ordered to pay compensation of £29.98, a victim surcharge of £20 and costs of £85, as well as £8 compensation for stealing four cans of Special Brew from the same shop on the same date.
