Harrogate Magistrates Court: weekly round-up

Gary William Bowes, 26, of 16 St Andrews Place, Harrogate, was fined £75 for failing to comply with a previous supervision order and missing appointments with the probation service.

Chantel Armitage, 28, of Flat 4, 10 Grove Road, Harrogate, was given a 12-month community order and instructed to carry out 40 hours of unpaid work for failing to notify the Department for Work and Pensions of a change in circumstances affecting her entitlement to income support. The same sentence was given for failing to notify Harrogate Borough Council of a change in circumstance affecting her entitlement to housing benefit. She was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £60 and costs of £85.

Colin Peter Dunne, 44, of 7 Bower Street, Harrogate, was given a 12-month community order for stealing children’s clothes from Marks and Spencer in Cambridge Street, Harrogate. He was ordered to carry out 50 hours of unpaid work and to pay a victim surcharge of £60.

Adrian Philip Murray, 64, of 28 Hollins Crescent, Harrogate, was given a 12-month community order for dangerous driving on Parliament Street, Harrogate. He was ordered to complete 80 hours of unpaid work and to pay a victim surcharge of £60. He was disqualified from driving for 20 months.

The following were dealt with at Harrogate Magistrates Court on January 20:

Wayne Armstrong, 40, of 25 Half Moon Lane, Spennymoor, Durham, was given a 12-month conditional discharge for damaging a window in Alexandra Road, Harrogate. He was ordered to pay compensation of £180, costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £15. For failing to surrender to custody, magistrates ordered that he be detained in the courthouse and deemed the detention served through the time already spent in custody.

Michelle Collier, 43, of 124 High Street, Byers Green, Durham, was given a 12-month conditional discharge for damaging a door in Alexandra Road, Harrogate. She was ordered to pay compensation of £250, a victim surcharge of £15 and costs of £85. For failing to surrender to custody, magistrates ordered that she be detained in the courthouse and deemed the detention served through the time already spent in custody.

James Garton, 45, of 35 St Johns Way, Bishop Monkton, was given a five-year restraining order preventing him from entering parts of Glasshouses for using threatening or abusive words or behaviour likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress. He was fined £60 and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £20 and costs of £85.

Grigory Pilkington, 21, of 10 Railway Terrace, Knaresborough, was given a 12-month community order for stealing a total of £735 from another person via a bank and a post office. Magistrates imposed a restraining order to prevent him from contacting the victim and ordered him to carry out 150 hours of unpaid work. A victim surcharge of £60 and compensation of £500 were imposed.

Thomas Christopher Robinson, 35, of 27A Regent Parade, Harrogate, was given a 12-month community order for stealing fragrances, perfume and tanning lotion from Superdrug in Cambridge Road, Harrogate. He was ordered to complete 106 hours of unpaid work and to pay compensation of £199.98.

The following were dealt with at Harrogate Magistrates Court on January 19:

Rachel Elizabeth Buckley, 41, of Rigton House, Harrogate Road, North Rigton, was given a 12-month community order for driving while under the influence of alcohol. She was ordered to undergo a six-month alcohol dependency course, carry out 100 hours of unpaid work, and pay costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £60. She was disqualified from driving for 26 months, to be reduced by 26 weeks on completion of an approved course.

Kenneth Henderson, 72, of 72 Greenfields Road, Harrogate, was fined £250 for driving while under the influence of alcohol. He was ordered to pay a £25 victim surcharge and costs of £85, and was disqualified from driving for 36 months.

Claire Edmondson, 36, of Merlin House, Boroughbridge, was fined £320 for allowing someone to drive a car without insurance. She was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £32 and costs of £85, and six points were added to her licence.

The following were among those dealt with at Harrogate Magistrates Court on January 19 for non-payment of council tax:

Louise Baker of 19 Cawthorn Avenue was ordered to pay £1,744.60 or, in default, to serve 28 days’ imprisonment suspended. Darren Morrell of 1 Lingerfield Terrace, Scotton, £828.24 or 12 days suspended. Matthew Townsend of 25 Knox Lane, Harrogate, £2,575.09 or 45 days suspended. Tracy Dodd of 16 The Shepherdies, North Stainley, £1,518.94 or 45 days suspended. Sally Spiers of 13 Oak Road, Ripon, £1,594.25 or 35 days suspended. Sean Roman, 53, of 9 Wellfield Court, Pannal Ash Road, Harrogate, was committed to prison for 39 days for arrears and costs of £515, having missed 15 weekly payments since a previous order was made despite bank statements showing significant incomings.

The following were dealt with at Harrogate Magistrates Court on January 14:

Kit Peter Barrett, 26, of 8 Willow Grove, Harrogate, was fined £230 for using threatening, abusive of insulting words or behaviour with intent to cause fear of violence. He was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £23 and costs of £85. No further action was taken for committing a further offence while subject to a conditional discharge.

Dean John Holmes, 27, of 13 Woodfield Road, Harrogate, was fined £230 for using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour with intent to cause fear of violence. He was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £23 and costs of £85.

Jonathan McNiff Palmer, 58, of 3 Park View, Kirk Deighton, Wetherby, was given a six-month conditional discharge for stealing bottle of whiskey from the Co-op in Chain Lane, Knaresborough. He was ordered to pay compensation of £39.99.

The following were dealt with at Harrogate Magistrates Court on January 12:

Heather Louise Cook, 43, of 27 Bowland Close, Harrogate, was given a six-month conditional discharge for resisting a police constable. She was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £15 and costs of £85.

Stuart Allan Hayes, 36, of Cliff Grange, Fellbeck, was fined £675 for driving while under the influence of alcohol. He was ordered to pay costs of £85 and was disqualified from driving for 18 months, to be reduced by 18 weeks on completion of an approved course. A community order was imposed for using threatening, abusive or insulting words with intent to cause harassment, alarm or distress, and for two counts of damaging two white Land Rover Freelanders. Magistrates also made him subject to a four-month curfew and ordered him to participate in a Thinking Skills programme. He was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £60 and compensation of £710.31. A two-year restraining order was imposed to prevent him from contacting the victims.

Richard Lee Holland-Harris, 27, of no fixed address, was given a six-month conditional discharge for being drunk and disorderly outside the Prince of Wales Hotel in Starbeck, Harrogate. He was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £15 and costs of £85.

Darren Stephen King, 40, of 13 Inman Walk, Knaresborough, was given a 12-month community order for assault by beating and for damaging two plant pot vases. He was ordered to complete 10 days of a Stop Binge Drinking course and to carry out 60 hours of unpaid work. Magistrates imposed costs of £85, a victim surcharge of £60 and compensation of £100.

Enzo Tang Raistrick, 19, of 4 Grey Street, Harrogate, was fined £140 for driving while under the influence of alcohol. He was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £20 and costs of £85, and was disqualified from driving for 18 months, to be reduced by 18 weeks on completion of an approved course.

Richard Alan Williams, 29, of 23 Clos Y Berllan, Rhuddlan, Rhyl, was fined £300 for damaging a window belonging to the Royal Baths Chinese Restaurant in Crescent Road, Harrogate, on February 20, 2015. He was ordered to pay costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £30. No separate penalty 
was imposed for damaging a window belonging to the 
Royal Pump Rooms in Crown Place, Harrogate, eight days later.

She was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £20 and costs of £85, and was disqualified from driving for 18 months, to be reduced by 18 weeks on completion of an approved course.
