Bill Hendry, 75, was knocked down while crossing Stockwell Lane, Knaresborough with his dog, Abby just after 9.30am on February 26 2007.

After running him over, the driver fled the scene and Mr Hendry died in hospital the same day.

Police have always believed that the driver knew they had stuck Mr Hendry. However, despite considerable media coverage at the time and an extensive investigation, nobody has been brought to justice for his death.

The family of Mr Hendry will lay flowers at the scene of the incident and make a fresh appeal to the media at 9.20am on Monday February 27.

Neighbourhood Policing Teams will be handing out appeal flyers and talking to residents, and the mobile police station will be sited nearby.

An appeal billboard on an A-frame trailer near the scene is also planned at the scene of the incident outside Chain Lane Convenience Stores, by the mini roundabout where Chain Lane and Stockwell Lane meet.
