Cyclist fights for life after lorry hit and run

A Harrogate man is fighting for his life after a hit and run crash with a lorry on Otley Road.

The cyclist suffered life-threatening injuries after he was hit by a black and red lorry in rush hour traffic.

The 58-year-old man suffered serious head injuries in the crash on Otley Road at around 6.05pm yesterday evening (Thursday January 8).

He remains in a critical condition at Harrogate District Hospital.

The lorry driver did not stop at the scene, however police traced the Volvo lorry to an address in Knaresborough and arrested a 73-year-old man on suspicion of failing to stop after a road accident.

He has been released on bail.

The road between Arthurs Avenue and West End Avenue was closed for over four hours while specialist collision investigators worked at the scene.

Officers are appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision to contact them with information.
