Police in Harrogate are appealing for witnesses or information about the following crimes which have been reported in the town in the past week:

l Burglars struck at a house on Wedderburn Road overnight between Saturday and Sunday, stealing cash and a door key. They got into the house through an unsecured window.

l A bike was stolen from a flat on Jockey Lane in Knaresborough, on the afternoon of Tuesday, June 11. Burglars got into the flat through an unsecured door, accessing a communal area.

l And after the theft of an iPhone 4 and sat-nav from a car left unlocked in Harrogate, Harrogate Safer Neighbourhood Commander Supt Smith is warning people to be wary about keeping valuables on display.

“Despite our warnings and crime prevention advice, we have investigated a number of thefts recently where valuables have been stolen from inside cars and in some cases, the cars have been left unlocked,” he said.

“We may live in the most safest county in the country, but crime still happens. Criminals are looking for your phones, bags, shopping, sat-navs, even loose change, and if the opportunity is there, they will take it.”

l Police are also appealing for information after a car was damaged after a crash on West Park, with the driver of one of the cars leaving the scene after fixing her wing mirror. The crash happened at 5.55pm last Wednesday, between a blue Fiat 500 and a small blue hatchback. The Fiat was damaged along the driver’s side, but the driver of the hatchback, despite pausing to push her wing mirror back into place, drove away. Witnesses are asked to contact TC Steve Wright, of North Yorkshire Police’s Roads Policing Group, on 101.
