COURT: One-punch Ripon man left teen in fight for life

A Ripon man has admitted causing grievous bodily harm to a teenager who was left fighting for his life.

Billie Ajayi, 22, of Williamson Gardens, punched the victim with such force that the 18-year-old ended up in a critical condition.

Following the attack, in Quarry Moor Lane on October 11 last year, the teenager was taken to Leeds General Infirmary. Ajayi was arrested and remanded in Hull Prison.

He appeared at York Crown Court via live video link on Tuesday when he admitted inflicting grievous bodily harm on the named victim.

He pleaded guilty on the basis that he threw only one punch. This was accepted by the Crown Prosecution Service.

Judge Guy Kearl QC adjourned sentence for probation reports and medical information on the condition of the victim.

Ajayi will be sentenced in the week commencing February 8. He was remanded in prison until then.
