Council take man to court for fly tipping in village

A Sherburn-in-Elmet man has been ordered by York Magistrates to pay £375.64 for fly tipping.

Anthony Smith fly tipped a cardboard box and household waste outside the flats at Beechwood Croft, in the village.

Evidence and witness statements were gathered and as a result of the investigation by Selby District Council, Mr Smith was taken to court, where he pleaded guilty, on Tuesday December 17, to fly tipping under section 33(1) of the Environmental Protection Act 1990.

A council spokesman said: “Selby District Council officers investigated after being notified of a significant amount of waste discovered in the locations.

“The Council uses a wide range of tools to gather evidence against those responsible for fly tipping and will always take action when evidence is found.”

Mr Smith was fined £40, plus a £30 victim surcharge and legal costs of £305.64.
