Burglars broke into two houses in Spofforth last night - taking keys and stealing two cars.

Police say the ‘two-in-one burglaries’, so called when thieves target homes for cars, happened overnight between Sunday, August 31 and today, Monday, September 1.

A black BMW 520D saloon - registration “HEY 4Y” - was taken from Grange Avenue, and a dark blue Peugeot 206 estate was stolen from Parklands.

The Peugeot has been found nearby and investigations are ongoing to track down the BMW and those connected with both incidents.

Anyone with information is asked to call Harrogate burglary team on 01423 539029 or email sam.harding@northyorkshire.pnn.police.uk.

Alternatively, call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 quoting reference number 12140149298.

- Police are urging residents to take simple measures to stop themselves from becoming victims of two-in-one burglaries.

These include keeping car keys and valuables out of sight, locking doors and windows even you are home, fixing alarms, floodlights, and even leaving a light on when you’re out.
