Boy, 11, charged with knife threat to teacher at Knaresborough school

Police confirmed today that the incident on Friday involved a first year pupil and a 53-year-old man.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “Police attended King James’s School in Knaresborough at about 9.30am on Friday 6 March. An 11-year-old boy was arrested and has been charged with threatening a 53-year-old man with a knife on school premises.”

A spokesman for North Yorkshire County Council said: “King James’s School is working in partnership with the local authority and North Yorkshire Police following an incident at the school last Friday involving an alleged assault on a teacher by a year 7 pupil.

“Nobody was injured in the incident and a multi-agency investigation is now underway. Teaching and learning has continued unabated at the school. King James’s School takes safeguarding issues extremely seriously and is following all necessary procedures. Staff and pupils involved in the incident are safe and are now being given the necessary support by the school’s leadership and the local authority through what has been an upsetting episode.”

King James’s is a comprehensive school. Its latest Ofsted report rates it “outstanding” for pupil safety.
