Arrest after village robbery

Detectives investigating a cash-in-transit robbery at Sherburn-in-Elmet have made an arrest.

The robbery happened at the Co-op store on Finkle Hill on Friday August 21 and was reported to North Yorkshire Police at 8.18am.

“Two men wearing balaclavas and carrying knives approached security staff before they made off in a white vehicle with a large amount of money,” said a spokesman for the police force.

“No-one was injured during the incident.”

They added: “Extensive enquiries have been ongoing to identify those involved.

“On Monday, August 31, in the evening, a 25-year-old man from Leeds was arrested at Manchester Airport.

“Following questioning he was released on conditional police bail while the investigation continues.”

The appeal for witnesses and information about the incident is ongoing, explained the spokesman and the police are appealing for dash-cam footage from passing motorists.
