Armed officers called to arrest

ARMED response units were called out to Fairfax Avenue last week after a man allegedly made threats with an air rifle.

A police officer had approached the man at 8.45pm last Thursday night, suspecting him of driving while under the influence of alcohol.

But when approached by the officer, the man allegedly made a threat with an air weapon and then went back inside the house.

A police spokesman said that because of the nature of the incident, armed response officers were called to the scene to help with his arrest.

A 61-year-old man is due to appear before magistrates in Harrogate on June 28 charged with possessing an air weapon with intent to endanger life.

Police said the investigation into the suspected drink-driving is ongoing. Nobody was injured in the incident.
