Thieves have targeted a factory on the outskirts of a rural Knaresborough village - stealing more than £100,000 worth of jump lead and booster packs.

The thieves struck overnight between Monday and Tuesday, forcing their way through a secure gate and doors to get into Portable Power Ltd on the outskirts of Flaxby.

Hundreds of booster battery packs, drums of cable, and 1,000 pairs of jump leads were stolen in the raid.

“We would have expected the offenders to have needed at least a small commercial vehicle to remove all of these,” said Sgt Tom Jackson, of the Harrogate Safer Neighbourhood Team.

“It must have taken them some time.

“We are now looking for assistance from the public in identifying these offenders.

“We would urge anybody who saw a van nearby, or who saw anything suspicious, to get in touch, contacting PC Mark Ayre of Knaresborough Police.”

The thieves, who forced their way into the premises through locked doors and gates, stole more than 200 red booster backs which are used as a power supply for jump leads.

These cost £210 each and the total value of the power pack theft is more than £50,000.

The thieves also stole full drums of red and black covered copper cable, worth £1,500, and 1,000 pairs of jump leads, worth more than £60,000.

Anyone with information about the burglary or the location of the stolen items is asked to call North Yorkshire Police on 101, selecting option two, and asking to speak to PC Mark Ayre of Knaresborough Police.

Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555111.
