He said: "What has happened is this year the person who normally helps us is unable to do it and we are going to need volunteers to set up the beach. The sand is being delivered on Monday so we could do with people on both Monday and Tuesday. Many hands make light work, so if they have buckets, spades or wheelbarrows and a few minutes to spare it would all be really appreciated."

He added: "If people did help it would mean a lot to us, even if it was just coming down for 30 minutes. This is an important day and a huge fundraising opportunity. While it is a good injection of funds it is also an event which really is about the community here in Knaresborough.

"It is a massive part of Knaresborough Summer calendar and its a win-win for everyone in the town."

Henshaws is a charity which supports people living with sight loss and a range of other disabilities. The arts and crafts centre on Bond End serves as a community hub, and offers opportunities to take up creative work shops and regularly holds events such as the 'urban beach'.

On Wednesday members of the Harrogate Round Table will be travelling to the centre to put the finishing touches on the beach.

FEVA Art Director, Elaine Grinter, also called on residents to consider volunteering with the event forming part of a wider 10 day package which helps bring the community together.

She said: "The beach is a fabulous addition to the town during the summer, and if anyone is free for just 30 minutes it would go a long way to help.

"The art-makers at Henshaws will be at the beach and putting on an exhibition, Art Works on the Beach at John's Cove. It is a celebration of the work done by John, who died last year. He worked at the centre for many years and produced amazing papier mache sculptures.
