Hampsthwaite Book Exchange: will take place from 2pm today, Thursday, January 31 at the Village Room.

Tax: a reminder that today is the last day for paying tax for those who are self employed. This can be done at Hampsthwaite Post Office. Car tax can also be renewed there.

Film Study Day: still on the subject of films. It will only cost £20 to go to the next Film Study Day in Hampsthwaite on May 11 if you can recruit someone who has never been before. Even if you cannot find someone, provided you book by midnight tonight the reduced fee of £25 applies.

Burnt Yates School News: a collection of used clothes will be made for the Firefighters’ Charity. Bags should be brought to school by 9am on February 5. The children will be celebrating the Chinese New Year with a meal on Tuesday, February 12.

Recycling Box: whilst down at Hampsthwaite Post Office I noticed a cardboard box on the floor and the notice states that all sorts of things can be recycled for various wonderful projects. Amongst the items which can be left are greetings cards, mobile phones, unwanted gifts, ribbons, envelopes, Taylor’s vouchers, spectacles and lots more. Jane mentioned that the group raised an amazing £1,800 last year from other people’s unwanted items.

Burnt Yates Cricket Club: the AGM is to be held on Monday, February 4 at Bilton Cricket Club, starting at 8pm Indoor nets will begin on Friday, February 15 at Harrogate Grammar School for one hour starting at 9pm. There will be a small fee to cover expenses of £2 for senior players £1 for juniors. For more information on either of these events please contact Barrie 01423 770082 or Carolyn 014213 770701.

Hampsthwaite Show: as I type this, snow is falling outside and I am looking out over a winter wonderland so it is difficult to think ahead to July when (hopefully) it will be hot and sunny for Hampsthwaite Show and Feast. But neither happen by themselves and the first show committee meeting will take place on Tuesday, February 12 at 7.30pm. If anyone thinks they can help in whatever capacity, either in advance or on the day, the chairman Paul Hatherley would be delighted to hear from you. He can be contacted on 771904.
