Daisy May’s: as regular readers of this column will know, I am always delighted to give a mention to local businesses on our patch. A flyer came through the door the other day for Daisy May’s which provides flowers for birthdays, anniversaries and other occasions including funerals. I have been in touch with Olivia who runs it and she tells me she is a second year student at Askham Bryan and has decided to run a floristry business from Burnt Yates. She has already designed and made floral tributes for one funeral and this is the area in which she is interested. She will also be offering flower bouquets, arrangements and any other requests. Eventually she would like to design flowers for weddings and any other big events. She entered a display in Harrogate Flower Show and came 2nd in the category. If you want to see her work, she hopes to have a stand at Birchfield Farm Open Day on June 9. (Birchfield Farm lies between Burnt Yates and Summerbridge on the Pateley Bridge Road.) Olivia can be contacted on 01423 771840 or by email on

Galerie Thompson: Another local business which I am sure will be of interest is run by Bryan Thompson of 12 High Street Hampsthwaite. He offers a service putting photographs or paintings on table mats, coasters or mugs. He also offers a bespoke picture framing and photo printing service. Ring 01423 770981 or email

Table Top Sale with Dress Rail: Hampsthwaite’s Wednesday group is holding another fund raiser for this year’s chosen charity on June 1 at 10am-noon at the village room. Good quality items or unwanted gifts are being sought but it is emphasized this is not a jumble sale. Refreshments will also be served along with toasted tea cakes.

Concert in Hampsthwaite: Pat Jordan and Band Finnians Rainbow are appearing at Hampsthwaite Memorial Hall on Sunday June 2 at 7.30pm. For more information or to reserve tickets ring 770609.
