Teenagers from a Harrogate choir are warming up to give a top performance at a national music festival.

The Rock Up and Sing! Youth Choir has been invited to perform at this year’s five-day Music for Youth National Festival at Birmingham Symphony Hall in July.

Eighteen members, aged from 12 to 18, will be performing Radiohead’s Street Spirit, as well as an original piece of work featuring young Harrogate harpist Megan Humphries.

Choir director Rhiannon Gayle said: “It’s a wonderful opportunity for our young performers to sing at the Symphony Hall and we are pleased that all their hard work so far has paid off with this invitation.

“Music for Youth National Festival is a great way for young musicians to share their talent, learn from each other and perform at a fantastic venue. We are thrilled to be taking part in this year’s event and look forward to joining in this celebration of music and young talent.”

The musicians have all performed at regional festivals in the run up to the national event, and some of the best acts could also be invited to sing at the Royal Albert Hall.
