Catch of the year for hard working couple

A Pateley Bridge couple have battered the best by landing the Fishermen's Mission Fish and Chip Shop of the Year 2015.

Julie and Andrew Morgan, of High Street Fisheries, were chosen for the accolade out of 10,500 shops in the UK for the fundraising they have done for the charity which supports fishermen and their families.

“We would like to say a big thank you to all our customers for their continued support,” said Julie who has owned the business with her husband Andrew since January 2000.

“We hold this charity close to our hearts as the fishermen ensure we can keep providing our customers with wonderful fish and chips.”

Fundraising efforts, apart from a regular collection box on the counter, have included Andy completing a 150-mile sponsored bike ride in 2010 to mark 150 years of fish and chips.

Julie added: “Our local tea dance also had an event for the Mission. We have raised around £6,000.”

The pair collected their award at a prestigious ceremony in Trinity House in London, which was followed by a buffet lunch.

The Fishermen’s Mission provides practical support and a listening ear for active and retired fishermen and is the only national charity that works solely with fishermen.
