Car in 100mph chase with child inside

An Audi carrying a three-year-old child and a large amount a cannabis was involved in a 100mph car chase on the A1.

North Yorkshire Police said the car weaved in and out of traffic between Scotch Corner and Boston Spa at Tuesday before it was eventually stopped after officer sreceived support from the National Police Air Service.

Officers began following a grey Audi A4 at 4.25pm after it failed to stop for them on the northbound carriageway near Catterick.

It then continued north through roadworks before leaving the motorway at Scotch Corner and returning to the A1, heading back on the south-bound carriageway.

The car was stopped on the exit slip road of the A1 near Boston Spa where a man, 31, and a woman, 22, both from Rotherham, were arrested.

Police recovered cannabis from the Audi and found a child, three, inside.

No one was injured in the chase.

Police have appealed for anyone who witnessed the incident or whose vehicles may have been hit by the Audi to call 101 and quote reference number 12160086012.
