Can you give blind Leeds pup Sparkle a loving home?

Lovable blind pup Sparkle is looking for a forever home this Christmas, as her brother and sisters get ready to begin their new lives.

Sparkle, an eight-week old Crossbreed puppy arrived at Dogs Trust Leeds’ re-homing centre last Thursday with her brother Parkin and three sisters Catherine, Apple and Toffee.

But while her siblings are set to leave with their new families, Sparkle has been overlooked.

Staff at the centre are concerned that it is because she is blind and are desperate to find her a permanent home too.

Amanda Sands, the centre’s re-homing manager, adopted a blind Cocker Spaniel puppy, Clooney, from the centre eight years ago.

She said: “Sparkle is absolutely beautiful and all her sighted litter mates are going to be leaving soon so it’s really important that we find her her forever home.

“As an owner of a blind dog I can guarantee that they quickly learn to adapt and use their other senses. It certainly doesn’t stop them enjoying life.”

Sparkle’s blindness is due to a condition called Micropthalmia, which she was born with.

Her sight will never improve so the Dogs Trust team are hoping to find her a home with an older dog who can be her mentor.

Amanda said: “Sparkle will need another dog who can be her role model, a sensible dog who can guide her though her first months of life in a new home and do a bit of ‘on the job training’ with her.

“She will also need a home that doesn’t have young children so that everyone in the household is able to help her find her feet.”

If you think you can give Sparkle a loving come, call 0300 303 0292 or visit the centre on York Road. It is open from noon until 4pm Friday to Monday and noon until 7.30pm Tuesday and Thursday.
