Ripon Racecourse has fought off stiff competition to be named as one of the country’s best racecourses.
For the second year, The Racecourse Association, in partnership with VisitEngland and VisitScotland, has listed the course in their top 11 - a prestigious accolade that puts the city firmly on the map for both racegoers and the wider community, Marketing Manager Erin Boswell told the Gazette.
Erin said: “We have been up against 60 courses, including the likes of Ascot, so for Ripon to be up there on that list I think really shows how much we have to offer as a course, and as a city. We are thrilled to have been recognised for a second year.
“We all work really hard at the racecourse and I think something like this is testament to that. To get support from a national board is fantastic. As a course we are passionate about showing that going to the races is something for everyone and we want to continue to welcome families and new racegoers. Hopefully being in the top 11 will help to achieve that.
“We want to continue to make the course as accessible as possible, and that’s one of the reasons why we are launching shuttle bus for every race meeting this year to get people from the centre to the racecourse and back.”
The racecourse’s club dining area has also been given an excellence award - the only racecourse in England to have been given such recognition.
Erin added: “This is the second year the dining area has been recognised, and again we are are absolutely delighted. We are passionate about anything that really adds to our visitor experience. We want to show how much we have to offer, and Ripon does have so much to offer. We have a lot of visitor attractions.”
Managing Director at Ripon Racecourse, James Hutchinson, said: “We are delighted to be recognised in this way. It is a great tribute to all of our staff and racecourse partners who have worked very hard to achieve this result. It gives us another target to work towards during the forthcoming season.”
