Job threat for college staff

WORKERS at Harrogate College face a nervous wait about their future after its parent college announced plans to cut 79 jobs across three different sites.

Hull College Group, which formed a link with Harrogate in 2008, said redundancies were necessary as it looks to save £1.7m.

Jobs will go at either the Hull, Goole or Harrogate base. A decision on where has yet to be made.

Staff have been offered the opportunity to apply for voluntary redundancy in the first instance.

A college spokesman said: “The Hull College Group can confirm that they are consulting with staff about the need to make savings, as a result of reductions to its public funding following the implementation of the Government’s Comprehensive Spending Review.”
