Harrogate could be in line to get a huge new furniture store if planners approve an application lodged with the council.

The planning application relates to four adjacent units on Station Parade, incorporating the unit next to Blacks and including the former Raft store.

It was submitted by Commercial Estates Group (CEG) – the developer behind plans for 3,000 houses at Green Hammerton – on April 23 and the standard consultation period runs out on Wednesday, June 13.

The council will then have until June 29, when the application expires, to approve or reject the plans.

The east side of upper Station Parade has long been a preferred venue for furniture stores in Harrogate.

Habitat called the corner unit on Station Bridge home for years until 2011, when the brand went bust.

Multiyork took up residence there in 2013, only to close again after the company entered administration in 2017.

Next door, London chain Raft opened within the proposed site in 2013, selling its trademark hand-made sofas and reclaimed teak furniture, but it too closed down leaving the unit empty.
