A FESTIVE shopping extravaganza that took place at Wetherby Racecouse at the weekend has been hailed a big success.
As well as people from Wetherby and the surrounding area attending the event, shoppers from across the north of England flocked to the Spirit of Christmas event, with visitors making the trip from as far afield as Sheffield, Teesside and Halifax.
Nearly 4,000 people went through the gates over the two days to shop at the 92 stalls doing business at the event.
Stalls included a specialist cheesemonger, a seller of American sweets, jewellery makers, fancy Christmas candles and fairy lights, a toy store, artisan chocolates, hat and scarf sellers, cakes, books and beers and wines.
As well as the stalls there were also fairground rides, real reindeers and a birds of prey display to keep visitors entertained.
One of the highlights of the entertainment was the performance on Saturday by the Wetherby High School Glee Club, with music provided by Cleve Freckleton, who is also known as Rev Cunky.
Prizes of a Lewis and Cooper Christmas hamper and a holiday provided by North Bay Leisure Park were also up for grabs.
Organiser Janet Shaw said: “It was a great weekend. The shoppers seem to enjoy what was on offer and they got to get some great Christmas presents.”
