Careers magazine company takes on its first student apprentice


A RIPON company which produces the UK’s largest careers advice magazine and website for 14 to 19 year olds is leading by example and hiring its first apprentice.

Open Doors Media has taken on Sally Jones as customer services apprentice after experiencing rapid growth.

The company, which provides nine regional versions of The Regional Training Prospectus free to over 4,700 schools, careers centres and colleges in the UK, welcomes Sally on a one year apprenticeship.

Karl Mason, managing director at Open Doors Media, said: “Our website is fast becoming England’s most popular careers site, and our magazine has the largest circulation of any careers publication. Now is the perfect time to offer an apprenticeship.

“We arm young people with all the information and guidance we can and we’re now taking our own advice and benefiting from hiring our very own apprentice.”

Sally, who has just completed her A levels at Ripon Grammar School, will be working with schools and colleges to ensure the content and information in the publication is relevant, up-to-date and informative. She will also be working on the company’s social media feeds including twitter and Facebook.

“I’d encourage all businesses to consider running apprenticeship schemes,” she said.

“The rewards are there for the employer and trainee. I had originally considered university but the cost was prohibitive.”
