Building work has started on the 300 bed hotel at the £100m Flaxby Country Resort near Knaresborough.

Paul Ellis, managing director of Skelwith Leisure group which is developing the resort said: “It is very exciting to finally start on the main hotel site. K Rouse has done a great job with the highways and roundabout works and we are confident that they will continue this on the main site too.

“Skelwith Leisure has started work on the main hotel site to deliver the Flaxby Country Resort.”

Infrastructure and highways works started on the A59 in June 2013.

The hotel operator for the luxury hotel has not yet been revealed.

The site sits in the middle of the 27-hole golf course and will be one of the North of England’s premier hotels and resorts.

The Flaxby Country Resort will include bars, restaurants and a new golf club house set in nearly 300 acres of countryside.

A new roundabout will be created from the A59 for access to the resort. Work is expected to take around 18 months with the hotel opening in Autumn 2015.
