The Nidderdale Agricultural Society has submitted an outline application to build a house on an unused plot next to existing homes on the edge of Bewerley.

The society is hoping to sell the site with planning permission and put the money towards providing additional and improved parking to meet the growing demand of visitors to the showground.

Trevor Stoney, director of the Nidderdale Show, said: “There are two properties already built on the land next to the site and this would fill a little bit in the corner on a lump of ground which is not a lot of use to us.

“We are looking to raise some funds for the possibility of gaining more land in the future for parking, which is getting to be a big problem for us on show day.

“If the application is approved, someone will be able to buy the bit of land and build a traditional-style bungalow on it.”

Mr Stoney stressed the property, which would be built within the Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, would not be unsightly and would be in keeping with the surroundings.

He said: “All we are doing is looking to the future of the show. We realise we have a shortage of parking spaces so we are trying to make some funds so that when the opportunity arises we can acquire more land or improve the facilities we have got.

“The society would never want to do anything unsightly, as we want to make the best of the area.”
