Wetherby-based fitness trainer Matt Woods promoted the Boot Campathon which pushed people to the limit for three hours to boost Martin House Children’s Hospice funds.

“It was a great atmosphere and brilliant fun,” said Matt, who runs Boot Camps in Wetherby, Tadcaster and Knaresborough.

“This year’s event was our most successful.

“Previous years have been to St Gemma’s and most in any year was £560 so it has definitely caught the imagination of entrants this year.”

He added: “The day started with a fancy dress breakfast in Wetherby which provided great amusement for people in the Market Square at 8.30 in the morning.”

Matt added that the three-hour event started with a regular one-hour boot camp followed by a 90-minute team challenge and wrapped up with another 30 minutes.

And for the team challenge event, participants had to move two large bales of hay and a tyre without touching the ground over a pre set course with the help of a plank and length of rope.

“Rules transgressions, including touching the ground, were rewarded with a sharp blow on the whistle and a fitness penalty from the event referees,” added Matt.

“Penalties included press ups, sit ups and squat thrusts.

“Finally competitors were required to carry each item of equipment up the Scaur Bank steps completing the challenge by placing the hay bales, plank and tyre in a neat pile at the top of the bank.”

Equipment was loaned from Marsland’s Timber and Moss Tyres and Filmore and Union came along with free energy drinks for everyone at half time.
