Bishop Thornton Sport and Feast Day: on Saturday, June 29 starting at 1pm with races, swing boats, bouncy castle, tombola, coconut shy and variety of stalls selling bric a brac, plants, cakes and ice creams etc. The theme for the children’s fancy dress competition will be film and television characters. A free afternoon tea will be provided. In the evening there’s a barbecue starting at 7pm. Please bring your own meat and a salad or pudding to share. Volunteers to help organise and run events, together with sponsors and donations are always needed. If you can help out in any way please contact Tony Storey on 01423 771546.

St Wilfred’s Church: South Stainley invites you to join them for their annual Strawberry Tea which takes place on Sunday, June 23. Proceedings will commence at 3pm with Songs of Praise, supported by the United Benefice choir. The organist, Keith Dale has kindly agreed to play a short recital during the service. The raffle will be drawn after the service and ta and Strawberry scones will be served. Donations to church funds would be appreciated.

Invitation: Linda Boon has lived in Shaw Mills and used to attend Ripley Church. Last year she was ordained a Deacon in Ripon Cathedral. On Sunday, June 30 this year she is to be ordained as priest in a service at St John’s Church, Sharow at 6.30pm. Any people from the United Benefice of Bishop Thornton, Burnt Yates, Markington, Ripley and South Stainley are invited to come along. The service will be followed by fellowship and refreshments.

School News: St Joseph’s RC School will join with Bishop Thornton CE Primary School to sing at the opening of the Sport and Feast Day. On June 25 the infants will be orienteering in Ripon. The next collection for Bags2School will be on July 17.

Cricket: Bishop Thornton 1st team play Dacre Banks at Home on June 22 and the 2nd team play Pannal 3 away.
