Embroiderer’s Guild: the next meeting of the Nidderdale branch will be held on Saturday, November 17 when there will be a talk entitled Miniature Shoes by Serena Partridge. As usual there will be a stitching morning from 10am before the talk which will be held in Birstwith Church Hall, and visitors and new members will be most welcome. For further information please contact Mrs Maureen Robinson on 01423 880597 or visit our web site at

Home Insulation: don’t forget about the offer for home insulation from the government, which is for a short time only and ends on the last day of December. It now includes eco-beading which is ideal for stone property with breeze block interior walls. If your property is brick, normal cavity wall insulation is also available, along with loft insulation. With the cold weather back, this offer is well worth a thought.

Luncheon Club: the next lunch is on Tuesday, November 20. It would be helpful if you would let me know if you are going to bring guests to the Christmas lunch on December 11. Dorothy Barker and Mr and Mrs Verity were unable to attend October’s lunch due to illness, and we hope they will make a swift recovery. In October we were pleased to welcome two guests from Canada. As usual, if you are unable to attend, please let either Brenda 01423 770409, or Thelma 01423 770891, or me know so we have space for visitors. Elaine Burge 01423 770274.

Birstwith Walks: the morning walk on Sunday, November 25 will start from The Station at at 10am and traverse lanes, back roads and field paths of High Birstwith and Felliscliffe returning to Birstwith, a distance of some 4.5 miles. The afternoon walk will start from The Station at 1pm and go via field paths towards Burnt Yates and Shaw Mills before returning to The Station, again around 4.5 miles. The walks will be at a pace to suit those taking part. If you bring dogs you must keep them under control. You will need clothing and footwear appropriate to the weather and possibly something to drink and eat along the way. The walk on Saturday, December 15 will start from the village shop.
