Birstwith Coast to Coast Cycle Challenge: On Thursday, June 19 approximately 17 cyclists and a back up team from Birstwith are setting off to ride the Coast to Coast (Cumbria to Teeside), a distance of 146 miles covering all kinds of terrain. The majority of them have not cycled for years and have therefore been training for this event since February. It will be tough and there will be problems to overcome, but one thing for sure is they will have fun taking on the challenge. They hope t

They will be taking with them a village bike, which will be used for people who would like to cycle some of the way but are unable to do the whole route, for whatever reason. Logistically this will be difficult to organise, but it was never going to be easy.

At the end of the journey on Sunday, June 22 they hope to have a celebratory meal at the Old Station Inn, and to finish off the event a Grand Raffle the following Monday evening. If you would like to offer a raffle prize or be involved financially, we would be most grateful.

News from St James' Church: Birstwith's recently installed House for Duty Priest, the Rev Robert McLean-Reid has announced that with immediate effect there will be an 8am Holy Communion service every Sunday morning. Rob is also holding a clergy hour every Monday evening from 6-7pm, to enable any parishioner to call at the vicarage to discuss / book christenings, weddings and other topics.

Men are wanted - to sing in the church choir. Anyone interested should speak with the organist, Mrs Sarah Warnes.

Thank you to all those who made the brunch on May 10 such a great success. A record number of people attended and 400 was raised towards church funds.

Mobile Library: Please note that the mobile library will be at Clapham Green on Tuesday, June 3 at 2.25pm for 10 minutes, then at Birstwith Grange from 3.05-3.30pm. It will also be at The Holme on Friday, June 6 at noon for 10 minutes.
