Big-hearted 11-year-old from Harrogate sets up teddy adoption website for the NSPCC

Scarlett Smith-Dunn is selling over 200 toys through ‘Paws for my Cause’ and sending them to loving homes with adoption certificates. So high is the demand for Scarlett’s toys that the project has gone global, with orders coming from as far as Canada.

Scarlett said: “It was just going to be a small toy stall at St Mark’s Church originally, but I thought I could make it my own little business and help. Kids look after toys, and the NSPCC looks after children.

“Children are really excited to see their toys, and it makes me enjoy it even more the fact that I am making a difference not just to the charity, but to the children receiving the toys too.”

NSPCC Fundraising manager for Yorkshire Wendy Bates said: “The fact that Scarlett is doing this in order to help other children shows what a remarkable, caring and selfless young girl she is.

“We would like to thank Scarlett for her exceptionally hard work, and wish her all the best with Paws for My Cause. With her amazing support we will be able to help even more vulnerable children.”

Vicoria Grant from London ordered a toy straight away when she saw Scarlett’s project being talked about on Facebook.

She said: “The idea to recycle and use cuddly toys, a symbol of childhood, to fundraise for the NSPCC is beautiful. As soon as I saw it on Facebook I wanted to contribute and support Scarlett and the vulnerable children that the NSPCC gives a voice to.”
