Bank holiday roadworks relief on Yorkshire motorways

Transport chiefs will temporarily remove more than 400 miles of roadworks from motorways and major roads to ease congestion from 6am on Friday August 28.

A total of 14 sets of roadworks in Yorkshire will be lifted by Highways England as part of the relief scheme.

Highways England director of customer operations Simon Sheldon-Wilson said: “To help road users enjoy this bank holiday weekend, we’re completing or suspending over 400 miles of roadworks on motorways and major trunk roads.

“But we’re still asking people to play their part by planning their journeys and making use of the traffic information services we provide.”

Lane restrictions and temporary speed limits will remain in place at 52 locations to maintain safety.

Across the region, Highways England said it has completed 24 sets of roadworks and that only nine will remain in place at the weekend.

Roadworks lifted include:

- M621 J1, near Leeds, 1.7miles.

- M62 J30, near Wakefield, 1.2 miles.

- M18 J5 6, near Doncaster, 3.4 miles.

- A1, near Stannington, 8.4 miles.

- A66, near Bowes, 5.6 miles.

- A19, near Holystone, 3.3 miles.

- A1, near Alnwick, 4.9 miles.

- A19, near Silverlink, 3.2 miles.

- A64 Brambling Fields, near Malton, 4 miles.

- A1, near Stannington, 8.4 miles.

- A66, near Bowes, 5.6 miles.
