Another major festival cancelled in Harrogate district

It's with sadness but little surprise that the Harrogate Advertiser can report today that another of the Harrogate district's premier music and arts festivals has now been called off this year.

Having brought famous names from the world of classical music, literature, jazz and pop over the years such as The Hallé Orchestra, Imogen Cooper CBE and historian Dr Lucy Worsley to the beautiful picturesque Roman village of Aldborough near Boroughbridge in previous years, the Northern Aldborough Festival was scheduled to feature this June.

But organisers have eventually bowed to the inevitable in the circumstances of Covid-19 lockdown and have taken the decision to postpone the high-quality festival for the first time in its 27-year history.

A statement from the organisers said: "This is the first time in the festival’s 27 years that we have had to cancel and we would like to take this opportunity to thank all our supporters and sponsors for their continued support during this unprecedented time.

"Our priority is the health and wellbeing of our audiences, performers and staff. Following the Covid-19 outbreak we have followed Government advice and guidance, particularly the social distancing measures, and we believe that the only responsible course of action is to cancel all events.

"We look forward to welcoming you back to the Festival in 2021 and will remain in touch throughout the year."
