A NEW hot meal delivery service in Harrogate is set to make an impact on the lives of those relying on pre-prepared dinners delivered to their homes.
Harrogate Food Angels, which was founded by care workers Sue Ullman, Gill Thrush and Janet Hayhurst, launched the service last week by serving a hot meal to Mayor of Harrogate Coun Les Ellington.
“Meals on wheels is a lifeline to those who wish to live at home and enables many to remain independent,” said Mrs Ullman, “With quality produce and on site preparation, those we already care for will notice an immediate difference in quality to the frozen pre-heated meals they previously ate. It is essential that the elderly eat healthy and, particularly at this time of year, hot meals.”
The three co-founders, who all work for Harrogate Neighbours, which has been providing care to the elderly in Harrogate for more than 40 years, launched the service after deciding it was time for an alternative to the frozen pre-packed meals other groups offered.
The new initiative has already attracted a few celebrity fans, with the Duchess of Cornwall and TV chefs the Hairy Bikers sending letters expressing support for the scheme.
