This is how house prices in Harrogate have been affected by the pandemic

The average house price in March was more than £304,321 - a sharp 10.3 per cent increase when compared to the same period last year.

It means Harrogate is one of only 16 council areas in the country to break the 10 per cent increase mark.

And the Land Registry figures show buyers paid more for properties in Harrogate than anywhere else in Yorkshire and The Humber in March.

The average price paid would buy 2.7 homes in Hull (£115,298).

The ​boost ​contributes to the longer-term trend, which has seen property prices in the area ​achieve 8.82 per cent annual growth​ – again, the highest in Yorkshire and The Humber.

Over the last year, the average sale price of property in Harrogate ​​rose by £24,000.

Towards the other end of the scale, ​properties in York only increased by 1 per cent in March 2020 when compared to March 2019, giving an average price of £257,398

The highest property prices across the UK were in Kensington and Chelsea, where the average March sale price was £1.4million.

In contrast, the cheapest area to purchase a property was Burnley, where the average cost was £86,000.

Across the national picture, England house prices grew by 2.2 per cent in March, up from 1.7 per cent in February.
