Sainsbury’s reveals plans to open new Harrogate store at former Topshop building

Sainsbury's has revealed plans to open a new store at the former Topshop building in Harrogate town centre.

The supermarket said it had submitted plans to Harrogate Borough Council to move into the retail unit at 33 Cambridge Street which has been empty for more than two years.

If approved, Sainsbury's said its new store would create around 25 jobs and open in summer.

Patrick Dunne, property director at Sainsbury’s, said: “Our investment in Harrogate will give the local community a new and modern store and support jobs during the fit out and beyond.

"This Local will offer everyday essentials and give residents, workers and tourists the chance to get what they need as they go about their busy daily lives.”

Sainsbury’s already has four stores in Harrogate on Wetherby Road, Leeds Road, Cold Bath Road and King’s Road.

The new store on Cambridge Street would be around the corner from Tesco Express.
