“I’ve timed the walking distances and it’s five minutes from The Stray and four-and-a-half minutes from the train station.”

The project includes the conversion of two former police cells, which are set to be contemporary apartments, complete with reminders of their past life.

Harrogate Police moved to a new £18million police station at Beckwith Knowle (below) in May 2012, leaving the town centre base which dates back to 1931.

The building stood empty for two years and showed signs of neglect and vandalism before it was bought.

Initially Harrogate Borough Council had planned to level the building and create a purpose built council headquarters on the site. However these hopes were dashed in September 2012 when English Heritage listed the building.
