But rather than opting for a traditional sale, he has decided to raffle off his land online, with 400,000 tickets available for just £2 - and is hoping to use the money to buy a house in the Harrogate area, with plans to convert it into a B&B.

He was inspired to raffle off the land after witnessing the success of the Wakefield family who auctioned off their house for just £1.

Paul, who lives with wife Yana in Ossett, said: "I bought this land 12 or 15 years ago as an asset. It has 85 olive trees, is seven minutes to the beach by car and just 40 minutes from the airport.

"It has breathtaking views of the sea and also has mountain views. This is an opportunity for someone to own a piece of paradise.

"You get all the land and the legal fees with this prize for a £2 ticket. That's 50p cheaper than the lottery and better odds.

"We're going to use the money to buy a house and convert it into a B&B somewhere in the Harrogate area."

The winner will secure the 63,345 sq ft of land, perfect for developing if planning permission is granted, with 85 olive trees and stunning mountain and ocean views.

The land is located close to the town of Makry Gialos on the south east of the island, and has easy access to a nearby water tank, which Paul says is government owned.

Paul has agreed to pay for all legal fees associated with the sale, and has a lawyer and accountant on hand to help with all the legal documents.

If necessary, he will even fly the winner out to Crete to sign the documents.
