Architects to give '˜free' advice to '¨raise funds for local charities

Run by the York and North Yorkshire branches of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), Architect in t’ House provides one-hour design consultations with RIBA chartered architects for a minimum donation of £45 to either Saint Michael’s Hospice, Arc Light, Dementia Forward or Martin House.

New research shows that nearly two-thirds of homeowners have lived in the same home for at least ten years, despite their lifestyles changing over that period. The organisers say that home improvements can be the best option to make sure homes fit owners’ changing needs, and Architect in t’ House helps them develop their ideas while raising money for charity.

James Mate, chair of the North Yorkshire Society of Architects, said “Following the success of the RIBA’s Architect in the House scheme, which has now finished, we thought it would be a great idea to set up our own Yorkshire version to raise money for local charities. The original scheme resulted in some fantastic projects and some very happy clients, with the added bonus of raising money for some very worthy causes. No matter what the size of the potential project, we hope members of the public will get involved and help us to raise as much money as we can.”
