Comparethemarket.com carried out the study, by equipping viewers with eye-tracking hardware to capture the parts of the home that most caught people’s attention.
And while radiators and water pressure featured prominently, garden access, accessories and a clean and working oven were also closely examined.
Mark Gordon, Comparethemarket.com head of mortgages, said: “We conducted this experiment to determine the areas of the home buyers look at most to help sellers maximise their chances of a sale.
“Some sellers may not have considered these factors when preparing their homes for viewings, so we hope our insight will help them focus on the areas they should check and freshen up.”
Buyers want to know that the radiators work. If you have viewings booked, consider turning your heating on before they take place to ensure your home is warm - showing they work and creating a cosy atmosphere.
2. Garden access
Buyers looked out into the garden as soon as they entered a room that backs onto it. Make sure viewers can access your garden if they wish and consider tidying it up and making the most of the space.
3. Water pressure
Potential buyers check taps to see the water pressure. Get a plumber to check and also ensure taps are clear of limescale and give them a quick wipe using baby oil for extra shine.
4. Cupboard doors
Potential buyers check cupboards to see if they are well built and in good condition. Do they open and close well? Can they hold the correct amount of produce? Make sure they’re kept tidy.
