A marquee in the grounds of a Harrogate town centre hotel is ensuring guests can enjoy alfresco dining and live music – whatever the vicissitudes of British weather.

While August usually sees The DoubleTree Harrogate Majestic Hotel & Spa taking down tents associated with the Home and Gift Fair, this time it has installed one to assist with socially-distanced wining and dining.

Positioned adjacent to Frederick’s Terrace within the Victorian hotel’s landscaped grounds, the “Majestic Pavilion” can safely seat more than 140 people where they are served food and drinks under a canvas cover.

And unlike tepees used by some hotels, the Majestic Pavilion is open ended with tables and chairs placed on a matted flooring – plus performance space for solo musicians to a five-piece jazz band who are booked to play on Bank Holiday Sunday and Monday.

Andy Barnsdale, The DoubleTree Harrogate Majestic Hotel & Spa's general manager, said: “In response to the success of our al fresco dining and drinks packages, we have created the ‘Majestic Pavilion’.

“It’s proving very popular with guests and non-residents alike and means we can cater for larger customer numbers without compromising their safety, or ours. Alfresco dining has become part of the new normal, and the Majestic Pavilion will remain as our outdoor function room whilst the weather is still on our side.

“We are also delighted to be able to support a number of local musicians, who will be performing at weekends in the Pavilion for as long as it remains open.”
