The Society of Independent Brewers’ annual competition reflects the growing popularity of craft beers and real ales across the nation.

This year’s finalists included Hambleton Ales, which is based at Melmerby near Ripon, Hambleton Ales.

It was nominated for its Thoroughbred IPA (5.0 abv).

Mike Benner, SIBA managing director, said: “SIBA’s beer competition represents the very best in British brewing across all formats, from traditional cask and bottled beer to the growing number of craft canned and kegged beers.”

It’s not the first time Hambleton Ales has featured in national awards. It triumphed in the first-ever CAMRA Champion Winter Beer of Britain in 1997 and won Best Beer at the 2015 Taste Awards.

Under the direction of owner Nick Stafford, Hambleton Ales is celebrating its 25th anniversary with a brewery open day this Saturday, March 26 from noon.
