The iconic chain has closed its tearooms in York, Harrogate, Northallerton, Ilkley and RHS Harlow Carr to combat the spread of Covid-19.

Now, their famous afternoon teas will be available for takeaway for the first time since Bettys was founded in 1919.

The offer is only available this weekend and a full menu has now been released.

Customers can order a selection of sandwiches, scones and miniature cakes.

Bettys first began trading during the Spanish flu pandemic of 1918-20, but this is the first time that they have been forced to cease operations at all of their branches.

The collection service for takeaway orders is available at all Bettys tearooms from 10am onwards on Saturday and Sunday.

Orders must be placed by telephone.

The gardens at RHS Harlow Carr also remain open.
