The annual agricultural show has been held every July since 1838, and at its current site the Showground in Harrogate since 1951.
It did not take place during the world wars and was also cancelled in 2001 due to the foot and mouth outbreak. In 2012, it was called off after one day after heavy rain made the ground unsafe.
