International Nurses’ Day is celebrated around the world each year but this year it’s extra special because not only is it International Year of the Nurse and Midwife, it also marks the 200th anniversary of Florence Nightingale’s birth.

Pictured are the Wetherby Integrated Neighbourhood Team who provide care across LS22 and LS23, helping local residents to stay as well as possible for as long as possible in their own homes.

They provide healthcare to some of the most frail and vulnerable members of society and work with partner organisations across the city to support those with more complex needs.

Steph Lawrence, Director of Nursing and Allied Health Professionals for Leeds Community Healthcare and Leeds GP Confederation, said: “I’d like to give special thanks today to the team at Wetherby and all our neighbourhood teams working tirelessly across the city.

“As well as being a highly challenging and skilled role, community nursing is also a privilege.

“To support someone with their health needs when they are at their most vulnerable and often in their own environment requires a unique and flexible skill set and our Neighbourhood Teams excel at providing vital frontline services every single day.”
