New Duchy care home approved on former Alexander Court site

A new care home is set to open on the former Alexander Court site which closed in 2014 following '˜mounting concerns' over nursing care.

Hadrian Healthcare had its planning application for an 86-bed care home on Cornwall Road approved last month but said it does not plan to open this year.

The plans include demolishing the eastern and western wing buildings and most of the central building and replaced with four-storey replacement buildings.

The site is currently vacant following Alexander Court care home’s 2014 closure following a damning Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspection report.

They found that residents were at risk of malnutrition, as staff failed to record food and fluid intake and inspectors found that residents had gone without their prescribed medication for up to four days.

The CQC informed the local authority of its ‘mounting concerns’ after the inspection and the council took the decision to take residents out of the home.
