Every hour, 3 people are diagnosed with cancer in Yorkshire.

And that’s why Cancer Research UK is calling on women in Harrogate to fight back against this devastating disease by entering Race for Life 5k event at The Stray on Sunday, June 14.

As well as raising funds for life-saving research, taking part in Race for Life is an easy way to be more active – perfect for those setting themselves a fitness goal as their New Year’s resolution.

Georgina Thornton, Cancer Research UK’s Harrogate Event Manager, said: “We’re urging women of all ages, shapes and sizes to take on Race for Life and sign up now.

“Race for Life is non-competitive. It’s not about being fit or fast. Most women are able to walk 5k in an hour while chatting and having fun. Or they can choose to jog, run or even dance around the course if they prefer.

“If you’re looking for an opportunity to get active in 2015 and shake off those January blues, there’s no better time to take on Race for Life. With fire in their bellies and trainers at the ready, we know that Harrogate ladies are up for the challenge.”

Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life, in partnership with Tesco, is an inspiring women-only series of 5k & 10k events which raise millions of pounds every year to help beat cancer sooner by funding life-saving research.

Last year, over 1,700 women took part in Race for Life in Harrogate and raised over £89,000. This year, organisers need well over 1,800 women and girls across Harrogate to stride out to help raise over £100,000.

Money raised through Race for Life allows Cancer Research UK’s doctors, nurses and scientists to advance research which is helping to save the lives of men, women and children across Yorkshire.

Cancer survival rates have doubled since the 1970s and Cancer Research UK’s work has been at the heart of that progress. But more funds and more supporters are needed to bring forward the day when all cancers are cured.

Georgina continued: “We’re calling on the brave ladies of Harrogate to show their fighting spirit once more and take on cancer at this year’s event.”

“Race for Life is to celebrate those who are with us, and also remember those who are not. The atmosphere is electric, our participants are so inspiring and we’re calling on the women of Harrogate to help make 2015 our best year yet.”
