Members of Belmont Grosvenor School’s P arent Teacher Association handed over a cheque for £5,500 to St Michael’s Hospice in Harrogate after organising a ball in the school grounds.

Each year, members of the co-educational school’s PTA choose a charity to support for 12 months.

As well as the summer ball, the school organises other fundraising events and activities throughout the academic year to boost the charity’s coffers, as well as collecting money for the PTA.

This year, pupils at the Harrogate school took part in a charity Wheelathon, inspired by the Tour de France, and raised a further £1312 for the hospice.

Chair of the PTA Clare Whitaker said she was delighted the summer ball had raised so much money, and praised the hard work of the PTA team.

“St Michael’s Hospice is a charity that is very close to the hearts of many parents at Belmont Grosvenor School and we are delighted the money will be put to such good use,” she said.

St Michael’s chief executive, Tony Collins, explained how the efforts of local schools like Belmont Grosvenor help to make a real difference across the Harrogate district.

“Each year Saint Michael’s provides care and support for more than 2,000 people, both adults and children, living with terminal illness and bereavement – this simply would not be possible without the wonderful support of our local community.

“From Tour de France fundraisers to a brilliant summer ball, staff, students and parents at Belmont Grosvenor have put in a tremendous amount of hard work,” he said.

“We are extremely grateful for the support of Belmont Grosvenor, which will help us to reach more people who need us, both at our Hornbeam Park-based hospice, and out in the community through services such as our Saint Michael’s Macmillan Nurses,” he added.
